User perspective: Provide an easy way to temporarily ‘store’ a product, whilst browsing between products. As to reduce the emotional ‘commitment’ to having a filled basket.

Business perspective: Facilitate browsing of different products, and lower the (emotional) stress a user might experience of adding something to a cart, without quite surely knowing whether or not to purchase.
